Fresh Installation of contrexx CMSView Comments
1. Introduction:
Contrexx is a powerful Open Source Web Content Management System (WCMS) which will assist you in the creation, administration and maintenance of contents for the inter-net or intra-net. It's a completely web-based system with an easy-to-use WYSIWYG editor and intuitive user interface. Contrexx is very flexible, by adding modules you can customize the CMS according to your individual demands and it requires no technical knowledge or previous training. ![]() 2. Pre – Installation: Installation of contrexx cms requires a working web server such LAMP, XAMP or WAMP. If have you got a correctly configured web server continue downloading the source package from Contrexx – Download. Unzip the downloaded source zip to DocumentRoot(Generally DocumentRoot means '/var/www/') of your web server. Rename the unzipped folder to contrexx. By Default, all the installation files comes inside of /contrexx/CMS_FILES, move all those files to the /contrexx (this step is optional). 3. Installation: Now point your browser to the location where you unzipped the files. In my case it is http://192.168.2.58/gowri/Project/contrexx/. Now you can see a installation welcome screen. On the next screen you will be asked for the license agreement. On agreeing those things you will be redirected to System requirement check page. If your web server satisfies all the requirements. You will be allowed to the next configuration step.4.Configuration: In the configuration step you will be asked for the databse name and the mysql username and password for creating a database and required tables with data for the project. In the hostname field give our hostname, localhost in general. Then provied the name for the database in the next field, if you have already created a database uncheck the 'create database' and provide the name or else check it and make sure no other database exsist in the server with same name. Table prefix is the text that u need to have before every table name of the database that is going to be created. In the next fields give the username and password for the MySQL server. If you want FTP connectivity check the 'use FTP' field and provided the correct details or else leave it blank.5.Installation warning: At this stage of installation, most of the time you will be prompted with a long list of file permisssion errors. If u get such screen dont get scared, just change the premissions for the installation folder. You can even do this step before starting the installation process. To change the permission just run this command: sudo chmod -R -f 777 {folder's physical location from root}; After changing the permission, proceed to the next step by clicking the Next button at the last of the error list. 6. Database Creation: Now you can see a screen just like the below one, giving the confirmation of creating all the database tables. In the next step you will be asked for the administrator's email id.7. Administrator's Account Here you will be prompted to provide the admin username and password. On correctly providing those thing the final success screen comes. Giving the backend and frontend urls. 8. One of the older ways is to use the telnet program, which is available on most network capable operating systems. Accessing a shell account through the telnet method though poses a danger in that everything that you send or receive over that telnet session is visible in plain text on your local network, and the local network of the machine you are connecting to. So anyone who can "sniff" the connection inbetween can see your username, password, email that you read, and commands that you run. For these reasons you need a more sophisticated program than telnet to connect to a remote host. Unencrypted telnet session SSH, which is an acronym for Secure SHell, was designed and created to provide the best security when accessing another computer remotely. Not only does it encrypt the session, it also provides better authentication facilities, as well as features like secure file transfer, X session forwarding, port forwarding and more so that you can increase the security of other protocols. It can use different forms of encryption ranging anywhere from 512 bit on up to as high as 32768 bits and includes ciphers like AES (Advanced Encryption Scheme), Triple DES, Blowfish, CAST128 or Arcfour. Of course, the higher the bits, the longer it will take to generate and use keys as well as the longer it will take to pass data over the connection. Encrypted SSH session The two diagrams above show how a telnet session can be viewed by anyone on the network by using a sniffing program like Ethereal (now called Wireshark) or Sniffit. It is really rather trivial to do this and so anyone on the network can steal your passwords and other information. The first diagram shows user jsmith logging in to a remote server through a telnet connection. He types his username jsmith and password C0lts06!, which are viewable by anyone who is using the same networks that he is using. The second diagram shows how an encrypted connection like SSH is not viewable on the network. The server still can read the information, but only after negotiating the encrypted session with the client. Play with mysql import, export operationsView CommentsWe can easily do import/export operations in mysql very easily. Here is the example for both. In some cases you may have to have backup of your database and you want to use it some other server. In such cases you just follow the instructions given below. You can do the mysql import, export operations in two ways.
Just access the phpmyadmin from your browser(domainname/phpmyadmin) Once you provided authentication its all done. Choose a database which you want to export In the top you can find import, export options. You can export to many number of formats Once you chosen a format and tables which are to export means it will ask you to save the file. Export is over. You can import sql files easily from here, It has a disadvantage too. If your database is too big there will be time out problem. In such case you can follow the below one or just contact your hosting company to do this.
Here you need to ssh access in case if you are accessing the remote server or if it is local you just need terminal. First export the existing database by using the below command mysql -u USERNAME -p DATABASENAME > FILE.SQL Once you have the sql file means yoou can import the sql file by mysql -u USERNAME -p DATABASENAME < FILE.SQL Here you need to provide password to access For example # mysql -u root -p forum < forumdb.sqlIt will be stored in your present directory. # mysql -u root -p forum < forumdb.sqlThe sql file should be in the present directory. How to develop My First and simple iPhone Application?View Comments![]() The newbie surely search for xCode in the dock. Your are just installed the iPhone SDK it wont get automatically placed in dock. At first we have to run the Xcode IDE from the directory. Xcode runnable file found in the location /Developer/Applications. Once launching the xcode, the xCode icon will be placed in dock but each and every time you restarting the system, the xCode will automatically get removed from dock. So we have to place it permanently in dock. Right Click on Xcode icon present in the dock and select "Keep in Dock". Step By step process in creating a New Project in Xcode ![]() Creating New Project: (fig 1.1) After launching the Xcode a pop-up window will appear and shows some detail. For now, just skip that and close it. At the Right top of the desktop the application being selected is Xcode. Now select a File->New Project in the Menu. (fig 1.1) ![]() Choosing application type:(fig 1.2) After selecting the new project the window like fig(1.2) appear. There are many type of application that we can develop using xCode. We will see the difference of all these applications in future post. At beginning we don't know what type of application we are developing. For sample we take Windows based Application.(Don't check the check box that have given below). Then press the choose button. (fig1.2) Now it will ask to name our application. ![]() The directory structure of our application looks like this(fig 1.3). I have named my application has "MyFirstApplication". The main function and the delegate for our application will automatically generated. Always the class consist of two files SampleClass.h and SampleClass.m. I think most probably you know this. All here we are going to deal with interfaces. MyFirstApplicationDelegate.h consist of a variable type UIWindow. this is the mainwindow screen of the iPhone, this is nothing but what we say in general as 'form'. MyFirstApplicationDelegate.m consist of two functions in default 1. - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { } 2. - (void)dealloc {} applicationDidFinishLaunching function called while our application getting launched.. So all our coding and placement of views/ controls must be in this function. dealloc function called while our application getting exited. Writing Coding to Add Image and a simple Label in the View: We now trying to write coding to place the Image in iPhone View. At first for that we need an image in our application. Adding the image in our application has been described in the below tow figures fig(1.4) ,fig(1.5) & fig(1.6) ![]() (fig 1.4) ![]() (fig 1.5) (fig 1.6) Now the coding we have to write in the applicationDidFinishLaunching function. UIImageView *imageView=[[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:[UIScreen mainScreen].applicationFrame]; UIImage *image=[UIImage imageNamed:@"Hello World.jpg"]; [imageView setImage:image]; [window addSubview:imageView]; UILabel *label=[[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(100,460,200,20)]; label.text=@"Pavo Feathers"; [window addSubview:label]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; UIImageView-> This is the view used to place the image in the window. The syntax for UIImageView initialization is UIImageView *sampleView=[[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(float x, float y, float height, float width)]; Maximum for all the Views the initialization is same. [UIScreen mainScreen].applicationFrame gives the rectangle of the window. In our case now now it returns a rectangle of rect.x=0, rect.y=0, rect.width=320,rect.height=460. We had chosen a position of the UIImageView. Next we have to Set Image in that imageView. UIImage *image=[UIImage imageNamed:@"Hello World.jpg"]; the UIImage View class gets the image and keeps the image in the object along with all the properties of the image. UIImage *image=[UIImage imageNamed:imageName]; setting the image: [imageView setImage:image]; The ImageView has been created easily now we have to place it in the application window. So adding this view in the application window by [window addSubview:imageView]; By the same way the label also added in the window. I think for label there is not need of any explanation because it has just initiated and assigned the text. You can also download the sample project from here (MyFirstApplication.zip). The Directory Structure
![]() I am sure this has great naming convention and we all could understand easily why we are having these folder structure. application - application specific code Once we have our directory structure ready, let us understand a few coding conventions. Coding Conventions 1. mySQL tables will always be lowercase and plural e.g. items, cars and also there are many other standard frameworks, each one having their own advantages, and zend framework provides great security than anything else we just moving with zend and we will be seeing all the frameworks. The other frameworks are Cake PHP Code Igniter Symfony Prado To know more about zend just check out this Zend For more about Php Frameworks please stay with us for some time. Example of MVC ArchitectureView CommentsExample of MVC architecture: 1. When the user Log In on the login page, a request is sent to the servlet handler.
2. The servlet handler dispatches the request to the appropriate control class. In this case, Login control. 3. The Control performs the action requested by the user on the Model; in this case the Login Model. 4. The Model returns a response; in this example, a successful login message. 5. The Control either redirects to another page or returns to the same page with new data since the Model has been updated. In this case, the Control redirects to the MyPage. 6. The Interpreter gets the HTML for the page requested by the Control from the appropriate View, in this case the MyPage View 7. The View returns the HTML for the page. 8. The Interpreter sends the HTML for the page back to the browser. This is what happening while you are using MVC architecture. Isn't it structured and understandable. Am sure your answer is yes. So in coming posts we will develop a simple MVC application using php with the help of ZEND framework. Model–View–Controller using ZEND frameworkView Comments
Model–View–Controller
Model–View–Controller (MVC) is an architectural pattern used in software engineering. Successful use of the pattern isolates business logic from user interface considerations, resulting in an application where it is easier to modify either the visual appearance of the application or the underlying business rules without affecting the other. In MVC, the model represents the information (the data) of the application; the view corresponds to elements of the user interface such as text, checkbox items, and so forth; and the controller manages the communication of data and the business rules used to manipulate the data to and from the model. The main aim of the MVC architecture is to separate the business logic and application data from the presentation data to the user. Here are the reasons why we should use the MVC design pattern. 1. They are resuable : When the problems recurs, there is no need to invent a new solution, we just have to follow the pattern and adapt it as necessary. 2. They are expressive: By using the MVC design pattern our application becomes more expressive. 1). Model: The model object knows about all the data that need to be displayed. It is model who is aware about all the operations that can be applied to transform that object. It only represents the data of an application. The model represents enterprise data and the business rules that govern access to and updates of this data. Model is not aware about the presentation data and how that data will be displayed to the browser. In simpler terms Model handles all our database logic. Using the model we connect to our database and provide an abstraction layer. 2). View : The view represents the presentation of the application. The view object refers to the model. It uses the query methods of the model to obtain the contents and renders it. The view is not dependent on the application logic. It remains same if there is any modification in the business logic. In other words, we can say that it is the responsibility of the of the view's to maintain the consistency in its presentation when the model changes. In simpler terms Controller represents all our business logic i.e. all our ifs and else. 3). Controller: Whenever the user sends a request for something then it always go through the controller. The controller is responsible for intercepting the requests from view and passes it to the model for the appropriate action. After the action has been taken on the data, the controller is responsible for directing the appropriate view to the user. In GUIs, the views and the controllers often work very closely together. In simpler terms View represents our presentation logic i.e our HTML/XML/JSON code. What is MVC ArchitechtureView CommentsIf You are planned to develop a project(Stand alone application/Web development) you have to look into many aspects regarding security, code readability and re-usability,understanding and many aspects as per your project goes. What ever your project domain or what ever your technology chosen for project you will be having directory and file structure. Or else the total system will be confusing and some times the whole project concept will be clopsed. So you should be careful on directory and file structure once you finished your project requirement analysis, and another reason for security reason also you should follow a structured way of programming. Whether you can define your own file structure or you can have already built in architectures. If you are planned to write your own file structure means have these things in your mind. 1. Storage 2. Programming 3. GUI Even stand alone or web application you should have these analysis. Or if you are planned to use built in architectures means i always recommend you just know about MVC and you will be happily programming. Especially when it comes web application it supports you more than you expect. Because it is not technology dependent. You can use it in PHP/ASP/JSP What is MVC Architecture? SDK: A software development kit (SDK or "devkit") is typically a set of development tools that allows a software engineer to create applications for a certain software package, software framework, hardware platform, computer system, video game console, operating system, or similar platform. The latest SDK available for Iphone application development is iPhone SDK 3.0 .iPhone SDK 3.0 comprises of iPhone development Packages, XCode IDE and many integrated tools like memory leakage measuring, performance measuring and so on. To get the updated Iphone SDK from Apple one must get registered as a iPhone developer in apple's site. Here the registration link After getting registered as iPhone developer you can download the latest SDK from apple server itself. Here is the download link
